May 2026 was a month of extremes. We went from the birth of our twin granddaughters to moving into our new home to an unbelievable diagnosis. J was diagnosed on May 12 with ALS. We have spent the last 2 1/2 months learning, crying, embracing, and clinging to the Lord.

In our learning, we found ALS United, a wonderful program that comes alongside patients and their families during this huge change of life. This year is their 25th anniversary. We have formed Team J. Dog to help raise awareness and funds for ALS care and support. We want to come alongside others who are facing the same diagnosis, so we are choosing to walk in walkALS 2026 in September. We would be honored for you to join us. You can join our team and walk alongside us (we do have team shirts available to purchase), or you can give on our personal or team page. No amount is too small or too big. Every dollar stays in Georgia and goes to help those directly affected by ALS.

ALS is a disease that slowly robs a person of the ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. It can strike anyone and, although there has been a lot of advancements in ALS research, we still don't know what causes it. An ALS diagnosis is fatal because there is no cure.
