Transforming Vulnerability into Voice: My Mission
My thirty-three years in healthcare began with hands-on compassion as a CNA and evolved into nursing advocacy in critical care. I learned that healing happens not just through medical intervention, but through the profound human connection that makes patients feel truly seen and cared for. Maya Angelou's truth guides me: people will forget what you said and did, but they'll never forget how you made them feel.
As I navigate this path, I carry my name—Faith—as a testament to the unwavering strength that guides my advocacy. Now, as ALS challenges the very voice I've used to advocate, comfort, and heal others, I'm discovering that my mission transcends physical speech. My journey illuminates the resilience found in vulnerability, the strength discovered in accepting help, and the continued power to touch lives even when our bodies change.
Through my ALS experience, I advocate for:
Compassionate healthcare that honors the whole person, not just the diagnosis.
The dignity of every patient regardless of their ability to communicate traditionally.
Healthcare providers who understand that therapeutic presence often matters more than perfect procedures.
Families navigating medical challenges with the knowledge that love adapts and finds new ways to express itself.
My voice may be changing, but my message remains clear: in healthcare's most challenging moments, we have the power to make others feel valued, heard, and deeply cared for. This is how we transform medical encounters into healing experiences, and how we honor both the privilege of caring for others and the grace of accepting care ourselves.
Every interaction is an opportunity to leave someone feeling more hopeful than when we found them.
