Welcome to Team Knowles
When someone you love is diagnosed with ALS, your world changes in an instant. My husband has ALS. Every single day, I watch this disease take pieces of him away—his strength, his independence, his voice. The man who once carried the heavy things in our home now struggles to lift a fork. Simple things we used to take for granted—walking side by side, sharing a meal, holding hands without pain—are battles now. And behind every physical loss is the heartbreak of watching the person you love fight a disease with no cure.
ALS doesn’t just steal from the body—it steals from families. It forces spouses to become caregivers overnight, children to grow up too fast, and loved ones to live with the constant fear of what tomorrow will bring. My husband and I carry that weight every day, and it is exhausting. Some nights I lie awake, terrified of a future where his laughter and his presence are only memories.
But I refuse to let this disease have the last word. That is why I am walking in Walk ALS Georgia. I am walking so that my husband, and every Georgian living with ALS, knows they are not forgotten. I am walking so that when families like mine cry out for help, ALS United of Georgia will be there to answer. I am walking because love demands action—and because hope is stronger than despair.
You may not know anyone with ALS, but you know me. And I am asking from the deepest part of my heart: please stand with us. Join our team. Make a gift. Help us fight for more time, more support, and—one day—a cure. Because no family should have to watch the person they love fade away like this.
Love,
Shannon

Together, we can walk for my husband, for every family touched by ALS, and for a future without it.
