Pam's Journey
Pam's Journey
It all started with a needle and thread. Then, sewing a pair of pants, cutting up fruit and vegetables, lifting my new born grandson became problematic. Fingers and arms just didn’t work. The doctor sent me to a hand specialist, then a shoulder specialist, then a spine specialist who did surgery. Nothing helped. Finally, two years later, I went to a neurologist who diagnosed that I have ALS. That was three years ago.
The tricky thing about ALS is you watch yourself loose independence and the identity of who you are little by little, or day by day. Your brain is totally aware of your diminished physical capabilities.
However, there are blessings, also. The love and care from family and friends has sustained me. It has given me hope and let me know that I am still needed. I’ve welcomed 3 more grandchildren and attended every sport event you can imagine and cheered them on, all 8 grandchildren now. My husband of 50 years has stepped up to the plate as the ultimate caregiver. I am blessed.
I hope you will help me keep hope alive for all the warriors out there battling ALS. Come join my team and help support research and the search for a cure.
