We are proud to walk in honor of Jerry Travers, who was diagnosed with ALS in 2023. Jerry’s grandfather nickname is “Buzz,” and our team name is both a tribute to that family legacy and to Jerry’s alma mater, Georgia Tech—Go Jackets!

Why We Walk

Every 90 minutes, someone in the U.S. is diagnosed with ALS. And every 90 minutes, someone loses their battle with this disease.

ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a devastating, progressive neuromuscular disease with no known cause or cure. But there is hope—and that’s why we walk.

We walk so Georgians living with ALS can receive the care, equipment, and support they need to maintain quality of life. The average annual cost of ALS care is $250,000 per family, and Walk ALS Georgia raises critical funds to ease that burden. Your donation helps provide:

• Direct financial assistance

• Respite care

• Equipment loans

• Transportation services

• And other vital support services through ALS United of Georgia

We also walk to fuel research toward better treatments and a cure—because an ALS diagnosis shouldn’t mean the end of hope.
