Another year has passed as my sister continues her courageous battle against ALS. The progression is slow, and I am feeling blessed every day to be able to talk to my sister each morning. Though her speech is beginning to slow, and she now relies on a walker and cane, her spirit remains unbroken. She moved slowly and her time to need a wheelchair is coming upon us. She needs assistance and has made peace most of the time that she can no longer be as independent as her mind wants her to be. She's currently adapting her bathroom to create a more accessible shower. Watching Elise, my "twin, eight years apart," fight for her life is both inspiring and heartbreaking. She's always been my hero, my protector, my eldest sister and best friend. In her unwavering commitment to helping others, Elise has asked that I reach out to those willing to donate to ALS Atlanta.
