In Loving Memory of Jerry Travers
Trail Name: "Buzz"
In August 2023, my uncle Jerry Travers was diagnosed with ALS. In June 2025, we lost him—but his spirit continues to move through the lives of those he touched.
Jerry was an adventurer through and through. He hiked the entire Appalachian Trail, earning the trail name “Buzz”—a nod to his alma mater, Georgia Tech. He loved geocaching, always searching for the next hidden treasure, and he shared that joy with everyone around him. In 2022, we ran the Peachtree Road Race together—something I now run every year in his honor.
He was also a Scoutmaster who founded a troop at his church, guiding generations of young people with kindness and wisdom. As a dedicated volunteer with Trees Atlanta, Jerry planted hundreds of trees, leaving behind a legacy of growth, shade, and care for the earth.
Jerry taught us how to live with purpose, how to serve with humility, and how to find adventure in everyday life. He was a role model, a builder of community, and a beloved uncle.
This page is my way of giving back and continuing the impact he made in the world. Thank you for honoring his memory and helping support the fight against ALS.
