In just a few days, on September 8 will fall a significant day in my journey to fundraise for and educate about ALS -- the birthday of my beloved brother-in-law, Ken Greenhouse, Of Blessed Memory. Ken would have been 73 years old on that day had he been given the chance to live until then. But the horrific disease known as ALS took his life at age 58.

So, my last few weeks to raise funds through Georgia Rotarians Fighting ALS for ALS United of Georgia are with Ken constantly in my mind. Please consider making a donation to support the 500 ALS families in Georgia we serve. No donation is too small.

For the 17th consecutive year, I will be leading a team of Rotarians, Georgia Rotarians Fighting ALS, in ALS Walk in Atlanta on Saturday, September 20. I continue to Walk in memory of my beloved brother-in-law Ken Greenhouse, who died on July 16, 2011 from this horrific disease 8 years after diagnosis, 5 of those years on a ventilator.

Won't you please help me raise funds to support our PALS (Persons with ALS) and CALS (Caregivers of PALS)?  No donation is too small! Thank you!

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a progressive neuromuscular disease that slowly robs a person of the ability to walk, speak, swallow, and breathe. It can strike anyone and, although there has been a lot of advancements in ALS research, we still don’t know what causes it. An ALS diagnosis is fatal because there is no cure.

I am walking so that, one day, when Georgians hear the words, “You have ALS,” it will no longer mean that they likely will die within two to five years. I am walking so that Georgians living with ALS today know that they are not alone. I’m walking to assure that when they need help, they will be able to get it from ALS United of Georgia. I am walking to give them hope.

You may not know anyone with ALS, but you do know me, and I am asking for your support. Will you please consider joining me to make strides in the fight against ALS? You can join our team or make a gift to support our team. Either way, with your help, we can enhance the lives of people living with ALS, every day until we find a cure.
